In 2018, Phoenix police led the country in officer involved shootings
Police officers in Phoenix shot at 44 people in 2018, more than any other department in the country. They fatally shot 23 people, and killed two others. For over twenty years, Phoenix police has consistently shot community members at a higher rate than many other major cities. While many cities have taken steps to reduce the number of people shot by police, Phoenix numbers have risen in recent years.
Phoenix Police has a Culture of Violence
From racist social media posts, to racial profiling and deportations. Sexual assault, domestic violence, and taser deaths. The Phoenix police have a a culture of violence that extends beyond police shootings. It's a part of the everyday way they police Black, Brown, queer, poor, and disabled people.
